is this really dementia ?

sometimes I have my doubts, my father goes from not being able to dress himself , (clothes on in the wrong order, or on over the old clothes) to picking out , putting on, bathing and shaving , all by himself, getting his hearing aids glasses , cigarettes, and going to a restaurant, ordering off a menu, then comes home, takes off clothes , puts pajama shirt on legs, pajama bottom on legs and leaves dress shirt on . I feel more confused than him sometimes.
