When will our journey with Dementia end?

Written by posie

Hi have been meaning to do this for a long time.
My beautiful man has had dementia "Picks Disease" for over 10 years he has just turned 64. He has been in full time care for just over 1 year. I was at the end of my tether and when our daughter came from Brisbane with our 2 beautiful little grandsons and every noise they made he would imitate only much louder and had them so terrified they wouldn't go near him, I then realised that I needed some respite. We have 2 older grandchildren and he was just the best Pop, so sad for the 2 littlies not to know the way he was and our daughter feels cheated too.
Respite was put into place and he was to have 2 weeks in a state of the art nursing home. However it did'nt work out that way, he acted out so badly he was sent to a locked unit a short distance away where he stayed for8 months and the finally went back to the nursing home where he went for respite. Caring for Lee all those years was tough he wasn't the man I married or the father he used to be. He does'nt know us anymore hasn't for a long time, I go to see him once or twice a week just to make sure he is being cared for properly which he is most of the time. He had to have a hernia repair just before Christmas which was an experience but has pulled through ok. I pray for the day the good Lord lets him be at peace. Lots more tell, Regards Posie
