Subject: fear
A person I work with has dementia and has developed a fear of showering. He also has Down Syndrome. When I question him he says "Scared of water". It's been a few days and the results are showing. Anyone have a similar experience or a suggestion on what to do?
Answer from DementiaNet
‘This is a matter for the person’s family or caregivers to manage. If the dementia has been formally assessed by GP and/or specialist then behavioural dysfunction will have been dealt with. So there should be strategies in place to deal with the problem. If not, the person’s family need to be made aware that a problem exists in the workplace and the issue addressed in liaison with health professionals. ‘
