Doctor
(17-08-2005)
When you become sick, it is good to have a general practitioner who cares for you. You probably have a sense of what your doctor is like as a person and whether they know something about dementia. Now that the diagnosis has been made, talk with them about your disease and how they will support you in the future. If you do not think they are able to provide you with appropriate care, then you will need to find another doctor.
The doctor who made the diagnosis is a probably a specialist in dementia, among other things. Most people with dementia are cared for in the community by their families and their general practitioner. A specialist is often only consulted again regarding matters of medication.
A doctor is obligated to observe professional secrecy, and it will be safe for you to share your thoughts with him or her.
