Use of Force

(12-09-2005)

Some people with dementia develop behaviour that can make it very hard for the people around them to help them. They may continually go for walks without being able to navigate safely in traffic alone. They may refuse to take a bath, have their hair washed or have their clothes changed regularly.

Many of the staff who work with people with dementia have been specially trained to handle these difficult situations.

Forced relocation to residential care
If you live with someone who has dementia, or if you are their primary carer and you are having difficulty handling this enormous task, you may need to arrange a move to residential care.

Anyone needing a move to residential care must be assessed by an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) or see your GP. Contact Carelink for your local ACAT.
