The progression of the disease may in time cause the person with dementia to develop problems handling their own situation and making decisions. Therefore, it can be a good idea to think about the future and possibly take certain precautions to ensure that their wishes are respected in the future as much as possible.

It will be much easier for you to help them if you talk about the future beforehand. Even though your relative has developed a type of dementia, he or she still has the right to handle their own financial and personal circumstances as before.
