Stress
(17-08-2005)
A dementia disease makes a person feel very vulnerable. It doesn’t take many changes for an affected person to become confused. Large family functions or gatherings, and even simple appointments can create stress. Insecurity and anxiety may increase the stress. If you are stressed, your memory does not function as well as usual.
It can be hard to find the balance between the things you would like to do and what you are able to do. If you are in a strange place where you do not feel safe, ask a close family member or a friend to stay close to you. That may give you the sense of security you need.
- Ask your loved ones to point out what stresses you and when
- There is no shame in turning something down.
- Be aware of too few - or too many - activities on a daily basis. Both can be stressful.
