Anger and Powerlessness
(17-08-2005)
Anger is a feeling that arises when, for example, we feel we have been treated unfairly. With dementia, a person can feel angry about their diagnosis. “Why is this happening to me?” A person may experience anger and frustration in their everyday life when they are unable to handle daily tasks. A person may become angry at people trying to help them because they may not always show consideration for their vulnerability.
Anger may mask true feelings of powerlessness, depression and helplessness. The angry feelings need to be vented, so ask the people around you to listen to you, even when you are angry. If you are unable to control your anger, please see your doctor.
- It is natural to become angry and express it.
- But it is important to learn to deal effectively with your anger and heal again.
