Quality of Life

(17-08-2005)

Quality of life can be understood to mean getting the most you possibly can out of life. Quality of life now means creating a good everyday life with your dementia disease.

When a dementia diagnosis is made, it is normal to question your quality of life and ability to handle changes in everyday life. You may ask yourself if you ever will achieve a good quality of life. It does not all have to look that bleak, however. Many people with serious, life-threatening diseases can have a good quality of life. They often experience a deeper meaning in life and may come to important realisations about themselves and life that they would otherwise not have considered.

When you have dementia,, it may be difficult to predict the future, and consequently it is important to be proactive rather than put things off. Avoid isolating yourself, have good experiences with your friends and family.

  • Write down what quality of life is to you.
  • Avoid putting off until tomorrow what you can do today.
  • Give yourself some good experiences with your family and friends.
  • Live life to the full.
