Pharmacological treatment can be used to treat the symptoms that may accompany the dementia diseases. For different symptoms, the individual patient may benefit from different types of medication.

Medication to Treat Alzheimer's Disease

Two different types of medication are currently approved to treat Alzheimer's disease. The treatment may reduce the symptoms and improve everyday skills, but the medication does not stop the disease process in the brain. The medication cannot cure the disease.
