Treatment

The treatment, as with other chronic diseases, consists of:

• information and enlightenment about the disease, combined with a psychosocial effort,
• practical help and
• medication.

The most important part of the treatment for FTD is the non-medical part. The way people treat a demented person can affect that person deeply.

There is no medication that is specially approved for frontotemporal dementia. Some of the behavorial symptoms that may arise can occasionally be treated with different forms of medication. Epilepsy medication may occasionally be used to stabilize some of the symptoms.
