The treatment, as for other chronic diseases, consists of:
Today there is medication that has been approved for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. The medication treats the symptoms. The medication does not prolong life or affect progression of the disease.
People who have behavioural symptoms or psychiatric symptoms may at times benefit from other types of medication such as medication for depression, hallucinations or agitation.
