We had a wonderful time on Saturday at our 40th wedding anniversary afternoon tea. It was a lot of hard work shopping, planning, setting it up etc but it was all worth it. Trevor was a wonderful helper and did most of the hard work for me. Even my sister and her husband came down on the day to help.
We had 80 guests, some from every organisation we belong to and cousins, friends and neighbours, and my sister and one of Ray's brothers. Even a few people who had rung up to say they couldn't come actually came! Some turned up with presents and we had said NO presents but it was nice to have them to open.
The party went for 2 1/2 hours which was long enough to tire the over '90's, Ray and the youngest grandchild. Our singing group from the Lions Club, the "KB Singers" performed for nearly an hour and the old and young alike clapped, sang and stomped their feet to the sound of music from the '50's and '60's so it was a great afternoon of entertainment.
There were times in the week leading up to the party when I thought it wasn't going to happen. Ray when taken out fo his routine is more difficult to handle and often more confused so I wondered how he would go for the afternoon. I needn't have worried as he had a group of cousins all sitting together at one table and they tucked him in among them and he really enjoyed the afternoon. I was also able to circulate among the guests and say a few words to each one which was beaut.
So it was a day that will last in my memory for a long time. And when my inner voice tells me :"You don't have any friends, no-one wants to know you now." I will reply: "Yes, I do have friends, there were 80 people at our anniversary party."
So, even with serious illness or heartache in your every day life it is worthwhile to take time out to celebrate life and share your memories with those you love and those who love you.
