Have had a shocking time with internet for the past six months so had just about accepted that I would never get back online again.

Life still rolling along, some days good and some days not so good. Just trying to make the best of things which is not very easy. Sandy slowly getting worse, he has been assessed high care but he is nowhere ready for a permanent place in a high care, dementia specific residential facility. We have found a place which is low care dementia specific residential respite, they only take five or six people at a time. Even though Sandy is high care the facility are still happy to have him because he is fairly easy to care for and he has a good temperament. Seems to be like that with everyone but me. The facility is also great because the clients ages vary anywhere between 40 and into the 80's. We have been doing respite every three months but I have now decided to book Sandy in for two weeks every 8 or 9 weeks. I don't want to put him into permanent care and if having respite more frequently helps me to keep him at home then that is my preferred option.

I will go now hope to catch up in the chat room soon.

Lyn, so lovely to see you back on again. I know because you are on the other side of the country our timing is bad but I still hope we can catch up again soon.

Like Sandy Ray has a good temperament, with the paid carers at least, so he can still get respite at hostel level. He seems to be okay with it, don't know if he enjoys it. I have only been using the service for two fortnights a year so far but maybe will have to look to increasing that as his incontinence, stubborness and unco-operative behaviour is on the increase now and I am stressing out more. I just have to keep repeating to mayself: "It is the illness, not the person."

I did go to my dementia support group today. That seems to help but if I have had a busy week using some of Friday morning for that means a cut back in the other things I do so I tend to go once a month rather than once a fortnight.

Hope you have a good weeknd.

(((Hugs))) from Sue.
